Beautiful area with lots to see! Lunch was lovely with a great view overlooking a small lake watering hole and preparing for the wildlife we were about to see we saw elephants, wildebeest, crocodiles, birds and a large antelope-type at this watering hole. There is also a gift shop in the lodge which had a great selection for souvenirs and gifts. Dylan was our guide and he was excellent. He really knew the details about what we were viewing and made an effort to track the animals.
I could tell that he had studied this as he could explain things scientifically or in lay-people terms for us all to enjoy what we were viewing.
He is knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and it shows. Of course nothing can be guaranteed in the wild, but we saw a pride of six lionesses which were entertaining to watch. We saw bull elephants, a bunch of zebra, and even a very rare small cat I forgot its name. I got to see my first ever white rhinos and it made my week! The cat and the rhino sighting were at night as we drove back to the lodge and Dylan had a flashlight on - he never gave up and we were so lucky to catch those rare animals at night when I thought we had pretty much finished!
Great effort and memorable adventure! The lodge is well maintained and each cabin looks out over the water hole, even at the driest there is still water and lots of animals come into drink. We had elephants, buffalo, zebra, kudu, impala, warthog and several others. On the game drives, we saw about 22 different animals in one day, and that included 4 of the big five. We did see a leopard on the way out of the park so then we had the Big 5.
You could not beat the service, from the house keepers, the restaurant staff, the bar staff, hotel management and of course the guides, their knowledge is great and the show a passion for the land and the animals. It is at the end of the winter and it is very dry, but the number of animals was many.
I was there for a conference and the facilities were fantastic. They have separate conference facilities and looked after us well. It also has a nice pool and good waiter service, a good spot to rest before the afternoon drive.
They also help look after the local schools, primary and secondary. You can take books pens etc. Overall it was a great 4 days. I definitely want to go back. Thanks to this waterhole you will be able to see a lot of animals already from your own balcony! We had elephants only a couple of meters from ourselves while relaxing on our balcony.
The lodge itself is nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was also very good. Free wifi is available in the main lodge area but not in the rooms itself. Murray was our ranger for the four game drives. He made absolutely sure that we had the best experience we could get.
He is very knowledgeable about the reserve and everything that lives in it. He listened to your questions and did his utmost best to get you to the animals you'd like to see.
The reserve has not received any rain for a long time so there were always animals to find around the few remaining waterholes. We saw everything we wanted to see.
Among them the leopard, black rhino, African wild dogs and spotted hyena's. The leopard was high on our list since we had not been able to spot it yet on our 6 other game drives in 3 different reserves before coming here.
On our last game drive we finally spotted the leopard in a tree with a kill in his mouth! Thanks for all the staff and especially Murray for the great experience! We will advise this lodge and reserves to our friends and family for sure! THE PRO'S To the person, the management and staff were at all times highly professional and accommodating, and nothing was too much for them - ever.
There wasn't a question asked and there were many which he was incapable of answering. He constantly challenged us to use our common sense, since it is way too easy just to slip into neutral and ask questions without first trying to use a little logic.
We all appreciated that, and Iggy's wonderful dry sense of humour. He is an asset to Tau. Open safari vehicle. Romantic night dining. Open air dining. Safari-style bath with outdoor views. Luxury bedroom with private viewing deck overlooking waterhole.
