Virtual lpt driver

Not happy with this unannounced breaking of parallel ports. Not happy with the overall buggy Win10 experience. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit people found this reply helpful. I is not a printer problem it is an LPT1 problem inside of this last patch. Next time it will probably still be in 'Use any interrupt assigned to the port' just change it back to 'Try not to use an interrupt'.

You can get the printer to work temporarily only until next reboot. There had been rumors of removing legacy port support ever since before Windows was released.

They backed off and have supported "legacy" at least partially until now. It is a Microsoft screw up in the last update. Now go back to the IT guys at Microsoft and have them fix it.

Any help would be most welcome. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. In addition, the program offers a vast array of configurable options that can be especially useful for testing serial software and hardware.

For example, the utility lets two applications share data over virtual COM ports in such a manner that everything written by one program will immediately appear in the other one connected to the other end of the virtual serial port pair. You can use the software for a variety of purposes, including:. For those of you who are looking for a simple way to create not only virtual COM port pairs but also their bundles with various custom parameters, the app developers offer the Virtual Serial Port Driver PRO version.

This edition is tailored for professional use by serial port software and hardware developers and testers. You can easily split a single real RS port into multiple virtual COM ones that will fully emulate the physical port. Virtual Serial Port Driver Pro makes it possible to create complex port bundles where multiple virtual and real serial ports can exchange the incoming data with all the other ports added to the bundle at a time. Anytime your application needs to connect to a serial port, the switcher option will link it to a COM port being currently free.

It needs to be attached to port LPT1 as well. Two people work with this program daily, so we'll use their computers, one for each printer. Let's install the first printer:. Windows 8. The adapter installs automatically and is not recognized as a parallel device or LPT port. Now open Devices and Printers. Click Add printer and select The printer I want is not listed. At the next dialogue choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and, at the next dialogue, Use an existing port.

The printer is not listed in the dialogue box that asks for a driver and updating the list by clicking Windows Update doesn't help. A check of Panasonic's support site indicates the printer is completely unsupported at this point, but a Panasonic technical support specialist helped puzzle out the trail that led to the Epson FX Series 1 80 driver included with Windows 8.

It works perfectly. Now the printer is installed. The solution is relatively straightforward and can be integrated right into the batch file that is used to start the program.

Let's get old school and play a trick on our printer: we'll share it and print to LPT1 that way. Right-click the printer and choosing Properties. Share the printer, do not list it in the directory, create a short share name just for good measure, and then ensure the user of the client machine is listed in the Group or user name area under the Security tab.

The two people who will be printing to these printers create my paycheck, so I gave them Domain Admin rights. That may have been unnecessary. Both are users on the primary domain but not the secondary, and I didn't want to spend time troubleshooting the permissions issue. Now modify the batch file and use the well-documented net use command to implement the printing solution:. Ensure the user is listed under the security Tab.

Are Domain Admin privileges required for the user? Probably not, if everything is running from one domain. Check your syntax. You probably misspelled the name of the computer, the printer, or maybe missed the colon?

Only one colon is needed, per the Microsoft documentation. Will adding an unnecessary colon to lpt1[:] cause failure? There are plenty of "parallel to usb adapters" on the market.
